Grammar Lesson 9:
Prepositions"에" is used for timeIn English, you use "at, on, in" for time depending on what it is. However, in Korean, you only need to use "에" when indicating time.
1) 1시20분
에 만나자! Let's meet
at 1:20.
2) 2월2일
에 여행 출발해. I leave for my trip
on Feburary 2nd.
3) 한국 전쟁은 1950년
에 일어났어. Korean War broke out
in 1950.
"에" is used for place as well.
1) 엄마는 회사
에 계세요. My mom is
at her office.
2) 아빠는 미국
에 사세요. My dad lives
in America.
"에" and "로" are used for direction1) 저는 학교
에 가요. I'm going
to school.
2) 저는 서쪽
으로 가요. I'm heading west.
"부터-까지" for duration1) 저는 9시
부터 5시
까지 일해요. I work
from 9
to 5.
2) 저는 12월 1일
부터 30일
까지 아르바이트 해요. I work part-time from December 1st to 30th.
"에서-까지" for distance1) 저는 서울
에서 대전
까지 매일 운전해요. I drive from Seoul to Daejun everyday.
2) 서울
에서 시카고
까지 14시간 걸려요. It takes 14 hours from Seoul to Chicago.
"한테" and "에게" for directing a person "한테" is used in speaking, "에게" is used in writing
1) 저 엄마
한테 줄 게 있어요. I have something to give you.
2) 친구
한테 선물을 줬어요. I gave a present to my friend.
3) (In a letter)
사랑하는 엄마
에게,
엄마 잘 지내시죠?
"하고" and "랑 for meaning "with" *These two have no differences in usage.
1) 저는 친구
하고 쇼핑 가요. I'm going shopping with my friend.
2) 라면은 김치
랑 먹으면 더 맛있어요. Ramen is more delicious when eating with Kimchi.
